BMB Registration process

This page covers the registration process to access instruments in the Biochemistry & Molecular Biology node of the Biological Optical Microscopy Platform. These instruments include the:

  • Zeiss Elyra LSM880
  • Leica SP8
  • Olympus FV3000
  • Leica SP5
  • DV Elite
  • OMX Blaze
  • Image Analysis Computers

You are required to complete both "Registration Documentation" and "Training Documentation" BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

1. REGISTRATION DOCUMENTATION

Please download the relevant user agreement form and submit an electronic copy below. You are required to provide the below forms/info BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

2. Training Documentation

  • Leica SP8

    Follow the below steps to prepare for your instrument training. You are required to complete all these steps BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

    1) Bio21 Institute Induction: All researchers are required to have undergone a building safety induction, before starting work in the institute.

    2) Training Documentation: Read the relevant training documentation.

    3) Competency Assessment: Complete the online competency assessment.

    You are required to get 100% to pass the assessment. You will need to click on the "View my score" option at the end of the quiz to see your score and you can use the "edit my responses" option to correct any incorrect answers. Please take a screen grab showing that you have successfully achieved a 100% pass rate.

    4) Online Booking System: Register for the booking system via this link and request access to the instrument. Further instructions are provided with the training documentation.

  • Olympus FV3000

    Follow the below steps to prepare for your instrument training. You are required to complete all these steps BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

    1) Bio21 Institute Induction: All researchers are required to have undergone a building safety induction, before starting work in the institute.

    2) Training Documentation: Read the relevant training documentation.

    YOU ARE REQUIRED TO STATE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE SWP & RA IN THE BELOW FORM

    3) Competency Assessment: Complete the online competency assessment.

    You are required to get 100% to pass the assessment. You will need to click on the "View my score" option at the end of the quiz to see your score and you can use the "edit my responses" option to correct any incorrect answers. Please take a screen grab showing that you have successfully achieved a 100% pass rate.

    4) Online Booking System: Register for the booking system via this link and request access to the instrument. Further instructions are provided with the training documentation.

    5) OGTR/RG2 organisms: The FV3000 is no longer in a PC2 certified space. No work on viable OGTR/NLRD or RG2 samples should be performed on the system.

  • Leica SP5

    Follow the below steps to prepare for your instrument training. You are required to complete all these steps BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

    1) Bio21 Institute Induction: All researchers are required to have undergone a building safety induction, before starting work in the institute.

    2) Training Documentation: Read the relevant training documents.

    3) Competency Assessment: Complete the online competency assessment.

    You are required to get 100% to pass the assessment.     5) Individual training record: Please fill in the white sections in the Individual Training Record form (this can be found in the training documents). As room 417 is a PC2 certified facility, ALL RESEARCHERS must fill in sections 1-4.

    6) OGTR/PC2 organisms: Researchers performing work with viable OGTR/RG2 samples must provide the following:

    • Evidence that the facility (Cert 3345, Room 417, Bio21 Institute) has been added to their OGTR agreements. Please contact Lynda Boldt to arrange this.
    • A SOP & RA covering the below topics
      • Transport to and from the facility
      • How they will handle the samples
      • How they will decontaminate the instrument following use
      • How they will clean up any spills.
  • DV Elite

    Follow the below steps to prepare for your instrument training. You are required to complete all these steps BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

    1) Bio21 Institute Induction: All researchers are required to have undergone a building safety induction, before starting work in the institute.

    2) Training Documentation: Read the relevant training documents.

    3) Competency Assessment: Complete the online competency assessment.

    You are required to get 100% to pass the assessment.     • Evidence that the facility (Cert 2040, Room 115, Bio21 Institute) has been added to their OGTR agreements. Please contact Lynda Boldt to arrange this.
    • A SOP & RA covering the below topics
      • Transport to and from the facility
      • How they will handle the samples
      • How they will decontaminate the instrument following use
      • How they will clean up any spills.
  • Zeiss Elyra/LSM880

    These training files currently only cover the LSM880 side of the system. If you would like to be trained on the TIRF or Single Molecule Localisation Microscopy applications then please send an email to bomp-enquiries@unimelb.edu.au.

    LSM880 Training:

    Follow the below steps to prepare for your instrument training. You are required to complete all these steps BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

    1) Bio21 Institute Induction: All researchers are required to have undergone a building safety induction, before starting work in the institute.

    2) Training Documentation: Read the relevant training documentation.

    • Evidence that the facility (Cert 4345, Room 120, Bio21 Institute) has been added to their OGTR agreements. Please contact Lynda Boldt to arrange this.
    • A SOP & RA covering the below topics
      • Transport to and from the facility
      • How they will handle the samples
      • How they will decontaminate the instrument following use
      • How they will clean up any spills.
  • OMX Blaze

    There are no training documents for the OMX Blaze.

    If you are interested to use it for 3D-Structured illumination Microscopy or Single Molecule applications, then please contact bomp-enquiries@unimelb.edu.au.

  • Image Analysis Computers

    Follow the below steps to prepare for your image analysis induction. You are required to complete all these steps BEFORE you can book in an instrument induction.

    1) Bio21 Institute Induction: All researchers are required to have undergone a building safety induction, before starting work in the institute.

    2) Image Analysis Computer Induction: Read the relevant training documents.

    3) Online Booking System: Register for the booking system via this link and request access to the instrument. Further instructions are provided with the training documentation.
